Our Breeding Philosophy

Our number one priority is the safety and health of our dogs and the dogs we produce.  We are breeding to preserve this breed which we hold so dear and which still stands at risk of failure to thrive and extinction. Our goal is to produce a line of dogs that is as free from heritable diseases as possible, of sound minds and which excel both as working dogs and family companions, just as their ancestors did over 100 years ago.

For this reason, we have several standards, beliefs and programs we hold ourselves to.

  • Puppies are always placed by us into the home we feel best suits them and gives them the best future possible. This means that you may not necessarily get to "pick" your puppy. And we by no means place solely based on "who was first in line." We review all applications, talk with all interested families, and try to get to know our prospective puppy families as best as we can. Then a decision is made.

  • For this reason, simply expressing interest in and/or filling out an application for one of our dogs does not guarantee you a puppy. At that time we may not have a puppy that fits your lifestyle, family, or time commitment. If this is the case we will try our best to point you in the direction of other trusted breeders who might have a puppy who suits your needs better.

  • All puppies are sold under contract. This contract is for the safety of the puppy and peace of mind for both breeder and buyer. The contract details that puppies will not be rehomed and must return to the breeder if at any point the buyer can no longer care for the puppy.

  • Puppies stay with us and their dam for at least 12 weeks, for their physical and mental health and soundness.

  • We believe in starting our puppies out with a foundation in good health. Puppies will be completely vaccinated for Parvovirus, Parainfluenza, Adenovirus, Distemper, Bordetella, Leptospirosis & Rabies before leaving our home and care. This is non-negotiable.

*For puppies traveling by air an additional fee to cover interstate health exam & airline-approved crate will be added to total balance due at time of transfer. Price of air fair is also the responsibility of the buyer.

  • Puppies will be microchipped before leaving our home, and our name will remain on the microchip as a secondary contact. This way if the puppy ends up lost, stolen or in a shelter we will be contacted and able to respond appropriately.

  • All puppies will be extensively health tested and screened for possible genetic conditions unless both parents are proven clear of all conditions.

  • From birth puppies will be extensively handled, desensitized and socialized. Programs we implement include Bio-Sensor, ESI "Early Scent Introduction", and aspects of Puppy Culture and Avi-dog, along with our own unique mix of socialization techniques.
